Travel Technology - Help me select an LCD monitor for my netbook!

Please!! :)

I am the (vaguely) proud owner of an HP Mini 1000, which I bought about 8 months ago, thinking that it would be fantastic for travel purposes (which it is ^).

Now that my other laptop has died and the Mini is now my main home computer, I want to get an LCD monitor so that using it on a daily basis is not so painful.

I don't need anything huge (17"ish), but I would like something decent (picture quality, etc.) and something that isn't too expensive (ideally less than $200... I've seen a number of monitors in Dubai for less than $150). Any ideas on what I might like? If it helps, I will mostly be using the monitor to look at spreadsheets, word/ pdf files, and the occasional powerpoint presentation (i.e., mostly black and white stuff related to work... no big photo-editing or gaming plans with this monitor).

thanks in advance for your advice!

PS. In my own due diligence, there is an LG monitor and a ViewSonic monitor that seem to fit the bill. Anyone have a preference for one brand over the other?

PPS. From the looks of my computer, I don't have a VGA port, but according to the HP website (http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/mini1000/index.html#/Accessories/), I can get an adapter cable that will let me use a monitor. Does anyone know if these are generic things that I can get anywhere, or am I going to have to find this specific item?

I don't believe there is a generic cable for that machine, and the HP one is very hard to come by. It's $35 from HP when they have it in stock, but available on e-bay for over twice that because it's so hard to get from HP.

Conveniently for you , the HP cable is in stock today:

As for the LCD, get what looks good to you and with the features you want. I have LG and Samsung LCD's and like them both but they are not $99 TN panels.

My Dell Mini 9 has a VGA out connector b uilt in and I use it with projectors and several monitors in various locations. I'm using it right now2 with an old HP 15 inch frlat screen anal0og monitor. Tonight I will be going to office where a new 17 inch widescreen LG monitor is waiting for me. It works with any of them, so it's up to you which monitor you prefer.
