Hi,
Looking for some options.
Using miles for a round-trip economy ticket, YYZ-HKG. Problem is there is no return flight for my selected dates in Feb. 2010. Perhaps its too early for booking? I have 47000 miles expiring Sept.30. so I would like to use them asap.
There will be 2 adults and an infant < 2 years old. I believe my best upgrade is 1-way economy to business for 2 adults = 90000 miles, plus costs for my son
I've tried all kinds of combinations 1 way upgrades, 1 way ticket, etc. etc. But this seems to best use even if it is just 1 leg of the trip.
Any suggestions for other combos - upgrades ?
Thanks for your help.

If it is on return award you can probably do HKG -- xJFK / xLAX ...... xNRT+xORD --> YYZ instead. Tokyo is open except 12 - 16 Feb and you can continue on AA. However as there are 2 people traveling, 1-way upgrade is probably the best use.
As you are new member here, be reminded that CX has restriction only ticket in sub-class YBHK are upgradable. Also note that mid- Feb 2010 is Chinese New Year so basically you won't see redemption availability until later of the year (or basically 0 availability for YYZ)

The Chinese New Year public holiday will be from 13-16 February next year.
As for award flights (including upgrades), you probably won't find much availability around those dates (some people fly before or after those dates).
And you'll probably pay a bit more if you buy the tickets, because Chinese New Year is a big thing - as big as the Christmas or Easter holidays.

Its about $1669 per adult for Economy Special or $1409 for Economy Save. I have a travel agent, that should give me a better price hopefully.
Using ChrisLi's suggestion, I found that I can do YYZ to NRT to CAN. (Actually Guangzhou is my ultimate destination) for 90000 miles on Japan Airlines. Unfortunately I need to submit a form, so I don't know if my selected dates will be available ?
