Most of the information already posted on the NH site, do a search before you ask any questions.

Morning flight is a 763, expect cramp seats, don't think they will let you choose bulkhead or exit as I don't see you have any status with *A, they are very strict about that even in HKG.

Actually I have *silver status. Additionally I was a bit confused if the IFE is AVOD or not?

Yes, there is AVOD.

763 is not bad. At least you have the 2-3-2 configuration in the back, which is far better than the more claustrophobic setup on the 3-3-3 777s. NH seats aren't significantly more cramped than ordinary Y on any other airline, but they aren't particularly roomy either.

Wrong. I just flew JFK-NRT and my girlfriend and I were both in the exit row. I was using my NH number which isn't linked to my UA status. Not the first time for me, either, so it is possible if you ask (sometimes even on the website, as was the case for our JFK flight). In my experience, most people in Asia don't bother to ask.

Compare to UA 763 or 777 in Y (E-), yes it is more cramped, more narrow plus box at the bottom of the seat.

You are quoting a different flight which wasn't OP's question, can't use that experience to say I am wrong.

All I heard at NH checkin at HKG, every single time the lady had to call (I guest her supervisor), saying exactly "Star Gold request bulkhead" or "Star Silver request exit", in order to release those seats for me. In NRT, it is even worse, NH lounge told me no bulkhead or exit available (NH911), then found out those seats on board are empty. My tickets are always UA codeshare, I can only switch within the few rows of seat until at the airport checkin.

I have flown on this flight (NH911/912) many many times since the starting of this flight, around the same time when UA cancel its NRT-HKG-NRT. Every single time on NRT-HKG I have to stay in my original seat. Only HKG-NRT has a chance to request exit or bulkhead.

OK, if you say so. To me, it's a wash.

Note that the UA 777s have the same box, and it powers a much less interesting video system...

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that you booked a codeshare. And in the case of the lounge, maybe the people in the bulkhead/exit were no-shows or got upgraded before boarding. Who knows.

All I know is that the NH web site has let me choose bulkhead and exit row seats with no NH status whatsoever and no notification of my UA status, and this is on both domestic and international flights. So either (a) it is not NH policy to deny those seats to non-status pax, or (b) the website has been broken for a while.

I love ANA - great service and a great airline in general! I normally fly with them in Asia in C Class - perfect!

Try and upgrade if you have spare points bundi404, they will not let you down!

Thanks for all the great info. Dont have the points to waste but thanks for the tip!

One additonal question, Ill be flying to NRT with ANA and continiuing to EWR on CO ( Its one ticket so I assume ANA can issue my BP in HKG). However I plan to use my NWA card on the CO flight and my M&M card with ANA, will they be able to put the cards on each respective boarding pass?

Unless your NH flight is not going to come until November, there is no way for NH issue your CO boarding pass, as CO is currently skyteam, NH is *A. You can however through checked bags all the way to your final destination.

NH is also no way to enter your NW WP number when you checkin with NH, different alliance, especially you are not going to use that number til you get to NRT.

Unless one is on the afternoon flight operated by 744 or 77W, I wouldn't bother to upgrade to C on the 763 club ANA asia, the seat is angle, not flat, plus one tray meal service, big downgrade on the Japanese option.

No, it was clearly blocked, or I wouldn't get the same answers over 2 dozen flights.

OK, if you say so. To me, it's a wash.

Even seatguru had pointed out NH 763 Y is 17.5" width, compare to UA 763 Y is 18", and on the NH 77W and 772, it is 16.5" width compare to UA 777 18", that is a huge difference. There is no point to argue at all that NH's seat is indeed more narrow.

Did you book your ticket thru NH directly ? I doubt it is apply to OP, as OP is connecting in NRT with CO. More or less, book thru NH directly let you choose your seats even bulkhead or exit, it also means no matter what you only get 70% of actual miles, at least on UA codeshare I get 100%.

I think the issue is not where you book, but whether you book the flight as an NH flight or as some other airline's codeshare. If you're getting it with a UA code, you're going to get stuck in UA's limited block of seats. I don't think this is the case if you go to Travelocity or Orbitz and get a ticket with both NH and CO flight numbers, though I could be wrong.

it also means no matter what you only get 70% of actual miles, at least on UA codeshare I get 100%.

Even on a codeshare, your mileage accrual depends on which class you book, so your ticket has to be booked in Y or E class to get 100%. I got 70% miles on the only occasion I flew NH with a UA flight number (NRT-IAD, booking class M).

Yes, sorry, good point - I totally agree!

That sounds pretty typical out of NRT. At IAD I can usually score a bulkhead upon check in. I have been told that they typically aren't released until the day of the flight.

No, it doesn't, I don't know how long ago did you do a codeshare, but that is not something happen during the past year or two. When you book a codeshare, what you book in UA transfer to different fare class on NH, especially these past 2 years, all of my UA codeshare on NH for NH911/912, UA booked in either T class or W class, it showed up in MP summary as NH Y class, hence 100% RDM. This is also reported by many FT members in the UA board.
