My son wants to make a day trip from PHL to Williamsburg VA. The train gets in at 11:15 AM. The return trip from Williamsburg VA is at 4:45 PM. Given Amtrak's legendary punctuality, I am afraid his time on the ground ( visiting a local school) might be cut short. I am hoping any of the Flyertalker from the area can shed some light on the Amtrak service. TIA.

It should give you a good idea of how they do on any route.

That's just my opinion of course.......I would drive and stay over.....

I agree, he should stay overnight. He is a 17 year old doing a college visit. Maybe I should ask the fllyertalk gurus the real question. How does a 17 year old get a hotel room with only a valid Visa/MC Debit card!

The vast majority of hotels require someone 21 or over to check in....i highly doubt any would permit a 17 year old to check in alone....technically he is a minor and the hotel will not take responsibility for him AFAIK (or they certainly shouldn't)
Someone who is an adult will have to go, unless the college offers a chance to stay in a dorm.....
