I would like to find a free wap browser emulator that I can use on my dell mini 9 netbook ,

I have it tethered to a very slow hookup on a cellphone, (slower than 56k dial-up)
so if I check my email on the wap sites it will be mostly text and load quicker,

I looked at WINWAP but the one for the desktop you have to buy,

This is just to be used as a back-up , but at least I will be able to read it and use a regular keyboard, I never could do that on a cell phone screen and keyboard,

thanks for your ideas

Any browser that supports user agent switching should do the trick.

Here's an extension for Firefox:

Have you tried just disabling all images, rich content and other heavy stuff?

Two thoughts --

1) Don't some websites a) still show you an HTML page even if the user agent indicates you're on a mobile device and b) rely on a separate URL for WAP content, e.g. wap.thesiteyourelookingfor.com or m.thesiteyourelookingfor.com?

2) And even if the site does return wap content based on a modified user agent string, what is Firefox going to do with it? Usually it can't display pages designed for a mobile phone.

Yes, but changing the UA string will stop the separate URL from kicking you over to the full-fledged site.

I've never had a problem.

It all depends on what the OP actually wants to do. GMail, for example, has a Basic version that works well on slow connections: https://mail.google.com/mail/
You can also turn off image downloading, disable flash, etc.

Hi, I would rather have a seperate browser for WAP sites ,

I can load the WAP sites I need to go to in the favorites and get thru my emails and a couple other sites quick,

If I have full WIFI then I can use IE7 or Firefox and the use the full websites.

turning images / flash etc on and off all the time is a hassle if I end up doing it a few times a day.

I am tethering on a cell phone , but it would also help others if they end up somewhere and only 56k dial-up is available.

thanks again

Did you try user agent switching with the mobile sites you want?
It's really simple to switch in Firefox.

Otherwise, I'd just buy WinWap. It's just $23, and you say you use it a lot.

I've never had a problem.Good to know.

Firefox never knew how to handle wml files (So I used the Klondike wap browser/emulater), but this was back with the 3.0x versions. Maybe the 3.5 browsers support it.
