El Al Matmid - what is your best upgrade strategy

wanted to know what will be the best upgrade strategy for the
tlv-nyc route .

As currently you can find Z class tickets which are cheaper than S class, is this the best way to travel biz ?
or is there another/better way ? maybe getting V and upgrade with 1000 points each way ?

My upgrade strategy is to travel on days when there are fewer elite members flying. I then pray I get the last minute upgrade at check-in.

If Z is cheaper than there is no real question.
Otherwise what I do is getting a S ticket and just ask nicely for an upgrade on the check in.
With LY I get the upgrade about 75% of the time! They are amazingly nice and helpful.
Cannot compare to LH where (I was SEN at the time) they just grunt at my general direction.

my strategy is to buy W or even better Z, you get more points for less money.
I trust God on many other things but not in the upgrade stuff
(I don't know anything that the RAMBAM wrote about upgrades.)
When I want to fly F I will buy I and add points.
I don't trust last minutes upgrades.

Z will be your best solution... Cheaper than S, most of the times Cheaper than W (or around 100$ more expensive but woth the points).

I used to get 95% of the times upgrades on S class until i moved to Z,
I usually check before ordering the ticket the status of the flight regarding how full is the business class, if its almost full, either i search another LY
flight that fit me or i go for Z

For F i upgrade with points...
