Midwest - Sold Out in St. Louis
The shuttle driver told me a few minutes ago that almost all hotels in the St. Louis area are sold out because of airline cancellations. The airlines are giving vouchers to hotels that are full (surprise.)
Why is there a problem? Has the LGA drunk caused this much of a backup? Someone mentioned horrible weather problems in ATL, but the FAA site indicates no weather delays anywher in the US?
Why the problems?
I'm going to move this over into the Midwest forum, where someone there will hopefully be able to cast light on the OP's question.

In general, St. Louis generally has a pretty good occupancy rate during the week. If there is a major storm and a lot of flights are canceled, the hotels generally fill up FAST.
St. Louis is also completely full when there are major conventions and when there are Cardinal games on the weekend, especially Cubs games.
One hint. The Renaissance at the airport is generally one of the last to fill up.

The Marriott by the airport is probably the first to fill and for good reason.
