Finnair Plus - involuntary downgrading
Whoosh

Hello. :)
I'm new to this forum!
I recently travelled with Finnair from St Petersburg, Russia to Helsinki, Finland. I was booked business class but ended up in economy. The return segment of the journey was okay, but I did write to Finnair who said I could claim compensation under the EU involuntary downgrading rules. They did however, not explain how I should go about this.
Could anyone explan how I pursue this compensation? Is there some form I have to fill in?
(I'm sorry if this thread is in the wrong topic).
Thanks.

They should have given you a brochure explaining the EU cancellation/downgrade/delay rules - however at a non-EU outstation they may not have had them to hand.
Check out this link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation_261/2004#Upgrades_and_downgrades) for rough details, you will need to write a letter to the airline explaining that you are entitled to 30% of your ticket cost, and they should respond with that payment. If they don't, you will need to contact the enforcement agency in whichever country you live in, or in Finland.
As you point out, this is the wrong area to post this question. Click on the small red triangle below your post and the moderators will move it somewhere more appropriate.

Should this be in Mileage Run deals?
Let me move this to the Finnair forum.

Is there some form I have to fill in?You can use the form at http://EC.Europa.eu/transport/passengers/air/doc/complain_form/complaints_form_en.pdf
Thank you all, for the useful information and help. ^ I will make a claim and see where that leads me!
Thanks for moving the thread to a suitable sub-forum! ^

Just out of curiosity...do you have any idea why you ended up flying in the back of the bus when you paid for biz...?
I cannot imagine AY flying to LED with a plane that has fixed number of J seats (=long haul ac) so this kind of situation should not happen no matter what...this sounds very weird indeed to me..only thing I can imagine is a sudden issue with catering but as this was ex-HEL also that option sounds weird?
