I stayed at the Omni San Diego hotel this week for a conference. It killed me to do it since there were several Hilton and Marriott properties within line of sight but I was on the steering committee so was kind of obligated. If there were enough Omni's in odd places I would stay at them but there's not for my normal travel patterns.

It is a very nice hotel. I don't know if they have any loyalty program related lounge but as a once or twice a year Omni person, I was not invited anyhow.

The hotel is attached to PETCO Park by a sky bridge and is across the road from the San Diego Convention Center. It is quite convenient to the bars and restaurants in the Gas Lamp area.

I had a corner room XX05
looking at the Convention Center from one window and the edge of PETCO Park and a rail yard from the other window. Coronado bridge in the distance. There is a small balcony but because of the noise from the rail yard and the exhaust fans from a restaurant and associated food aromas I did not open the balcony doors much except when the power went out all over San Diego and the room got too warm.
With regard to the power outage, the hotel has backup generators for the Lobby, meeting rooms and one of four elevators.
The electronic room keys continued to work as did the hotel phone service but the room itself was dark except for the light of my iPad screen.

The hotel staff provided complimentary cold sandwiches, fruit, salads , soft drinks and water for several hours beginning at 7PM while the power was out. No adult beverages provided, free or paid but the rooms had stocked mini-bars. The hotel proved a table full of power strips so people could charge their electronics during the power outage.

Aside from the unusual events of Thursday afternoon and night, which the hotel handled well, it is a very nice hotel. Reasonable speed WiFi free as an OMNI Select Guest member, morning complimentary beverage delivered as requested.

I am not that big a fan of the louvered shutters on the bathroom wall but I was there alone so it didn't matter. Also not much counter space in the bathroom.

Desk chair does not roll/swivel and not that comfortable. No electrical outlet near bed, but I always bring an extension cord.

The room had a large Panasonic plasma TV and the previously mentioned mini-bar beneath it. There is a coffee maker next to the mini-bar but I did not use it because of the morning complimentary beverage service for Select Guest members.

Wow! Very nice hotel room. We were there for a week. It was so enjoyed the trip. It very long drive from PHX-SAN is approximately 5 to 6 hours. Sometime that we have to stop to get something eat at Subway and get more gas, too. I remember that we drove to El Centro, CA. It was small town where they lived there for a few years before they moved back to PHX. That was 10 years ago where my uncle & my mom and I drove to El Centro, CA for 1 day. It was so successful trip. It was my first-time where we spenit the night. Boy, it such a very long drive from PHX.

Omni does have a loyalty program (Select Guest) and there are real benefits just for joining (free Wifi, free morning beverages, bottled water, etc.). Its also based on "nights" and not "Stays" so you can pretty easily hit their Platinum status, which is 10 nights in a year if you only stay a few times.
