AirTran takes down its reservations/check-in/status systems in the midst of massive delays, without prior notification to either the public or to phone agents? Do they make a habit of this?

What a riot. Their agents are now looking up and giving out information from FlightStats.com.

Still down at 6:53am Eastern. I suspect there are more than a few displeased people this morning in the FL ranks.

Still down for system upgrade.

Independent booking sites such as Expedia and Orbitz are not displaying any FL flights. This is costing AirTran a bundle!

I don't get it. I logged in to their site and have full functionality. I can book a ticket, view flight status and check-in.

The system seems to be back up and running.

I am happy to report that even after this horrendous "upgrade" of the AirTran reservation system, it is still accepting the $25 discount coupons on ALL flights booked, not just flights to Florida.:)

The site appears to be off-line again. Unfortunately, they're still using the text from earlier this week: "Please check back with us early Thursday morning when our applications are online again." I certainly hope that it will be back before then!

I hope this upgrade improves the overall reliability of the website. It is probably the most unreliable website in the airline industry.

AirTran is massively failing right now. I'm a fan of theirs, but this system failure they have right now is totally unacceptable.

I called trying to upgrade and was on hold for 25 minutes -- and then the representative told me that their computers were down and to call back later.

I called back an hour later and was put on hold FOR AN HOUR. At the 1:00:00 mark, the automated system told me that they were overloaded and then disconnected me. After an hour of waiting.

I called back immediately and was put back in the queue -- so people at the end of the queue aren't kicked, it's the ones at the front!! No warning in the hold message that there are problems with the systems, so a lot of frustrated people unable to call in.

I trust y'all who are saying that it's not working, but every time I go to log in, view my bookings, flight status, or online check-in, it all seems to be working fine.

Hopefully they get the issues resolved soon, for their own sake. Is tonight's failure affecting flights getting in/out on time? I am noticing that all of AirTran's evening MKE departures are delayed by 1-3 hours.

Their Web site seems to be fine, apparently its their internal computer system. I was on hold for another hour and got disconnected -- that's two hours of being on the phone without talking to a human. I'm on hold right now and still no joy.

Total and utter failure. At the very least have a message system that says "Hey, our systems are down, don't waste your time sitting on hold, we're sorry for the inconvenience". But instead we can sit on hold and at the magic 1 hour mark it throws you off.

Yeah, I got the same Eternal Hold experience Friday night, it stunk.

Was on a 5:45 PHL-ATL flight that got canceled. Gate agent couldn't rebook because they were waiting for some sort of flight coordinator to get there. I sat on hold about 45 minutes (on the elite line) trying to get served that way, with no luck -- after waiting through all that, the flight agent told me the systems were down and she couldn't do anything. Oh, I was also trying to connect through the Internet to the AirTran site. No joy there either, it was all down too, I was getting SQL errors thrown in the window and then "down for maintenance" messages.

So I agree. Why not tell people BEFORE they wait that the system is down and nothing can be done? And why does it take so long to get through if the systems are down? Seems like a short conversation to say "nothing I can do, sorry charlie!"

The next flight out was overbooked, I already knew that. The gate agent told me that all the flights the next day were overbooked too, last she checked before the systems went down, so I'd need to sit around the airport all day and hope for an opening. Given that I had an online grad school midterm to take Saturday, I couldn't be doing that! Never had a multi-day stranding before. Lots of upset people at the airport. Oh, the next overbooked flight? It got in about 4 hours late, around 2:15 am. I think in retrospect, I'd rather have my flight canceled up front and just deal with it than get it at that hour, drive the hour home, and wake up a few hours later to take an exam!

I ended up hopping a train down to DC, where I am now. Since I have to be in DC early next week anyway, and was flying up Sunday night, it didn't make sense going home for just a few hours. Now to coordinate cat feedings, and getting my prescription transferred to a local pharmacy....

So anyway, the point of my long rant was to let me vent (felt good after the chaos!) and to concur that the system is total fubar these last few days, and being on hold forever to hear "systems are down, bye!" (or to get disconnected) is frustrating in the extreme!

This is turning into borderline disastrous. I haven't been able to check into my flight and I've been trying for 24 hours.

Web site check in is failing. I'm now worried that since I'm not checked in and their systems are down they won't be able to check me in at the airport. I'll go any way, but this is absolutely a total disaster on their part.

I'm a little surprised that this isn't on CNN -- an airline going totally AWOL on phone and internet for more than a day is pretty significant.

Yay, the Web site finally allowed me to check in...and it even offered a business class upgrade for $99, but I'm loathe to take it since I have an upgrade voucher that I've been trying to use forever.

I need to call them, but I've been lazy. I wait about half an hour and then get frustrated and have other things to do. I need to just tough it out. But man. That's on the elite line, even.
