Alitalia MilleMiglia - Seat assignements with award tickets?

I received international award tickets from AZ (BOS-ROM-IST) through DL for next year. Can one get seats assigned ahead of time on line or by calling?

Call. If FCO-IST is in economy, you will probably not be able to get seats assigned for that flight (unless travelling with an infant, or with a handicapped person).

that's all but true.
you can check in via the website and choose the seat you like the most.
also calling the CC number you can ask them to move you wherever you prefer;)

I believe this thread was referring to PRE-assignments (ie: days or weeks before the flight). Then, I am confident that everybody knows that seats can be assigned 24 hours before the flight through online check-in.

I never had seats pre-assigned on short-haul, but I must admit that I never asked in the past few months. Is this really possible?

Flying_pig, you are absolutely correct. My flight is in June of 2010 and I'd like to secure decent seats as early as possible.
Regarding on line check-in, let alone seat assignements, I am not holding my breath. I can't even pull up my itinerary on Alitalia's website. When I enter my name and the PNR code (given by DL) I get an error message back :(.

Unfortunately, you can only see your itinerary when booked on alitalia.it (.com doesn't work either :td:)
