If it fits through the x-ray machine at the security checkpoint, VX likely won't give you any trouble unless it doesn't fit in the overhead compartment. If it's a roll-aboard suitcase designed to fit the overhead bins, I wouldn't worry if it's an inch or two more than the official allowance. If it's fit in the bin on other carriers, it should be fine on VX.

In the US, the TSA allows one carry on and one "personal item" such as a purse, backpack, or laptop bag. In practice, this means you can bring two carry on items as long as one of them is smaller than the other, however the enforcement can be rather lax. In general, US carriers are much less strict about cabin luggage, especially with regard to weight, than European airlines.

And no, there is no VX lounge at LAX. VX's sole lounge is at SFO. The Alaska Board Room is available if you're a member of any of their partner lounges.

VX has lounges at SFO, IAD, and JFK. See the FAQ.

...and technically, the lounges are Virgin Atlantic's. Virgin America is simply allowed to use them.

I would be very careful about oversized bags as carry on.

First doesn't have a closet and the bins can be a tad less deep up front due to the curve of the plane. There is no underseat stowage. So the space that's allocated in rows 1 and 2 has to handle all of F classes bags, small and large. If you have an obviously oversized bag, they are going to politely ask you to check it.
