LAN LANPASS - LANPASS oneworld awards
I was checking the website regarding LANPASS oneworld award In particular the U140 which is a business class award with travel distance between 10000-20000 km looks quite interesting
Firstly I am confused does this mean it is return travel on oneworld
so for example could i use one to fly and does it allow stopovers
hkg-lhr-hkg on say CX and BA or is it one way only
http://www.lan.com/lanpass/canjee_kms/tabla_premios-en-un.html
any help greatly appreciated

HI,a ctually that is one of the best deals in lan's oneworld award table together with the First class for the same amount of kms. The KMS are for the total trip, it allows stopovers, you must start and end the trip in the same city and one surface sector will be allowed although counted as flown kms.... this is as far as I can remember though.

I was interested in one of these awards as well. However, I think it only allows 1 stopover. I called Lan for confirmation of the stopover rule and that is what I was told. Your experience mat vary. Please post if you are successful in getting multiple stopovers.
Does LAN count flown km for connections, or only origin/destination/stopovers?

The LANPASS oneworld awards system was too good to last very long. I have been using it for years. It allows one stop in every city but the number of cities where you can stop is unlimited. You can even go back to the starting point and count it as one stop over. Besides that, you can do 2 connections per city. After issuing the ticket, you can change your flights to make those connections as stop overs.
Note one last thing, according to the award table, if you have 190000 Kilometers, the number of miles you can fly is unlimited. The only limitation is that you can have a maximum of 16 segments, which is the maximum number of segment you can have in an electronic ticket (two years ago you could have paper ticket and then the number of segments was also unlimited)
All this will end next Tuesday, when Lanchile will eliminate its current LANPASS oneworld awards system. So, if you have the kilometers, change them by this Monday.
Notes: yes, you can do hkg-lhr-hkg on say CX and BA. LAN count flown km for connections, and the one surface sector allowed is NOT counted as flown kms
Cheers
All this will end next Tuesday, when Lanchile will eliminate its current LANPASS oneworld awards system.
Are you sure? Are they replacing it with a new system? Or are you saying that as of 8/5/09 there will be no LANPASS OneWorld awards at all?

They will replace it with a new system. As far as I know, the new system will charge you for each segment flown. Besides, there will be a substancial increase in the miles required for Lan segments alone.

What is the source for this change?

People at Lanpass Santiago. If you call Lanpass tomorrow, I guess at least they will be able to confirm the change. All of the people working there had to go through training for the new system.
