Air New Zealand Air Points - Splitting status points and airpoints ?

A lot of the cheap and normal fares on Air NZ are not eligible for Airpoints, Status points only. I still have a lot of miles on my Krisflyer card and i am close to a good reward. Fortunately i booked a flight on Air NZ to Japan where i can earn miles but i would prefer to collect them on my KF card. If i do so can i still get the status points on the Air Points program ?

No. If you credit the flight to SQ then you will only earn miles on SQ. If you credit to NZ then you will only earn AP$ and status points on NZ.

That is how I'd expect it to work, but I don't think I've seen anyone try it. If you use FQTS field with NZ number and FQTV with another will it credit status points based on NZ number?

I've never tried doing it that way around - instead I've put my AC*G in the status field while earning on Airpoints, but of late I have been meeting with resistance from the NZ booking agents when trying to do even that. I'm used to people telling me it can't be done or that there are no 2 separate fields, but 2 different agents within the last few weeks have said to me that "they are being told now that you can only have one frequent flyer number in your booking". All of which seems to indicate that maybe, with the concept of status earning as well as airbucks, maybe it IS now possible. Who's gonna give it a try? :)

I haven't yet been told I can't use both fields. I will be annoyed if I can't get my NZ status recognised when crediting somewhere else.

If one was to book an economy flight with SQ that's advertised as not accruing KrisFlyer miles, if you credited it to NZ would you still get the status points? (I presume there'd be no $AP)

Not in my experience - the status point earning on non-mileage fares only works with NZ-operated flights.

BD/SQ/JP/TP flights that I've had my NZ number in the booking with (and displayed on the boarding pass), but booked in non-earning classes have not appeared on my statement at all.

To be fair, after I persisted (and the agent "asked a supervisor") they have come back to me and said that they can do it - that is, my AC*G in the FQTS field and my NZ Airpoints in the FQTV field. Though an agent I spoke to yesterday said most emphatically that there were no two fields, and got quite offended when I said that there were but that they weren't used often and not all reservations agents were familiar with them. As it happened, I didn't need both numbers in there for the non-NZ sections of the RTW so I didn't push it, I was just trying to explain why I'd had a different number in the first sectors of my booking. This was the same agent who royally messed up my RTW ticket, creating duplicate US and UA sectors left and right, so I'm not sure how proficient she is with the system anyway - so best not to get too alarmed at this stage about it being a new policy, but I did think it odd that 2 different agents within a few weeks were saying the same thing about multiple FF numbers being a no go.

A friend has ensured something was done about this - a reminder that FQTV and FQTS are able to be done has been sent out today to all direct sales staff, with an explanation of how to do it ^

That is good news - those staff who know about it make a real difference as compared to trying to explain (in person or on the phone) to someone who has no idea or tells you that only 1 FF number can be entered against your booking..^

^^^^ Great work - thank you. It's an excellent feature that NZ's sytem has, so it's a shame that it has often been such a battle to use it.

Now what are the chances of us being able to access the fields ourselves, e.g. from myairnz.com or from a 'manage my reservation' screen, to add our FF numbers as appropriate? That would be handy :)

It does not work, i spoke to AirNZ to day and tried to get miles on my Krisflyer card and the status points on my Air NZ airpoint card. They said it is not possible i have to deceide whether i want to use KF or AP. The FQTS field has nothing to do with it it is only about lounge access. That was the information given by the supervisor. It is a bit sad that you can get status points for all grab a seat fares but not for a fare where you can earn airpoints....

An example where it does work is with SQ flights in premium classes where you want to earn SQ PPS $'s as well as NZ Status & AP$'s.

SQ staff know how to do this but not all NZ staff.

Boarding pass will show Krisflyer No and NZ Status.

Which is correct. You can only earn points on one frequent flyer programme - SQ or NZ. The other field in this case allows Status to be shown to give lounge access and additional luggage allowance if * Gold.

So you can earn pps points on a SQ ticket and miles on AP but you can't earn status points on an AirNZ ticket and miles on KF ?
