does anyone know of a travel agent that could help me get a decent rate on a rental car in spain? (malaga)

I've used solmar for Alicante and Murcia rentals and have been very happy with the service and the price. It's never occurred to me to get a TA involved.

We have used Europcar and Avis in Madrid and Malaga. You can just shop online without the help of a TA.

There is apparently a massive shortage of hire cars in sourthern Iberia at present. That might explain the prices you are seeing if looking directly.

I've rented 3 times with Goldcar without any complaints (other than lack of availability causing an upgrade which I didn't want).

Goldcar prices are usually good and, apart from wheels/tyres/glass and underside of car (for which you can buy additional insurance when collecting the car), the fact that there's no excess (deductible) is attractive.

Bookings can be made at www.goldcar.es (in English if you lack confidence in Spanish) and payment doesn't have to be made until arrival.
