I will be traveling from Emeryville to Mount Pleasant, Iowa in a roomette. A question for experienced travelers: does the left or right side tend to have better views going eastbound?

Just camp out there all day. :) I think the only difference is when going through the canyons between Glenwood Springs and Granby, when a room on the right side of the train has a full view of the Colorado River and the other side of the canyon. Not sure which side is better through the Sierras. My only trip on the Zephyr, we were routed around the Sierras, through the Feather River Canyon. jackal Jul 25, 09, 12:53 am Note that it's a crapshoot which side your roomette will be on. The car can be oriented in either direction--bedrooms in front, roomettes in back or roomettes in front, bedrooms in back--and so you won't know until you board the train which side your roomette will be on. So nerd's advice to camp out in the SSL is probably the best! nerd Jul 25, 09, 1:30 am Note that it's a crapshoot which side your roomette will be on. So nerd's advice to camp out in the SSL is probably the best!Except for the transition sleeper car, which always faces the same direction. My only experience on a Superliner put me in the transition car, and it was great -- almost no pax walking through since it was at the front of the train, half of the rooms were filled with quiet Amtrak employees who were in and out of the showers hours before I woke up, and it has a couple more showers/bathrooms than the rest of the sleeper cars. Over Donner, both sides are good.... but anyone who spends the day in a sleeper won't see very much..... and a trip on the WP route is a very rare event. Bob H |
