All Nippon Airways Mileage Club - Domestic awards only in Y?

Hi there,

booked a bmi business reward comming from CPH in J. My final destination is ISG when booking the agent told me that only Y was available for the domestic sectors and looking at the ANA site it seems that only Y is available for award tickets domestically. Is there a reason for this and is it possible to upgrade say at the airport?

From what I understand, most domestic flights in Japan are operated by a dedicated domestic fleet. Although some flights may be on widebodies, there is no real "business class" or "first class" on NH domestic, only "Premium Class" (unless there is a unscheduled aircraft swap).

I'm booked on a *A Business Class reward, with one leg on NH KIX-HND. Like you, I only found availability in Y for that segment, and when I called NH to see if it was possible to upgrade, I was informed that it wouldn't be possible. You might be able to ask about a paid upgrade on the day of your flight at CI. I guess that NH regards the Premium Class as more than a C class.
I think the Premium Class is better product than those of the intra-Europe C class and the US domestic F class.

An upgrade to the Premium class costs 7000Yen regardless of the distance of a flight.
Assuming you fly from HND to OKA, it is a quite long distance, so it is worth trying it.

BTW, if you are flying from NRT to OKA, you will probably be provided with a C class seat although you have a Y ticket.

Thanks people. My flight leaves from HND to OKA and it is on one of the 747s. Will ask the good people at ANA what they suggest to get a seat atvthe front.
