American Express Membership Rewards - Madoff Amex Business Plat StatementView Full Version : Madoff Amex Business Plat Statement hs1 Jul 23, 09, 6:02 pm http://www.scribd.com/doc/15027931/Bernies-Credit-Card-Statements GoingAway Jul 23, 09, 6:54 pm I wonder where that membership rewards account went - it must be huge! That and I hope they look into all those charities that were given tens of thousands of dollars via credit card. ctownflyer Jul 23, 09, 6:59 pm So who gets his MR points? :D Gaucho100K Jul 23, 09, 7:14 pm Wirelessly posted (Nokia N97 / Palm TX: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D050; Blazer/4.3) 16;320x448) imagine the possibiities..... jgsx Jul 23, 09, 9:17 pm Notice he was still charge the $395 annual fee, even with >$100k/month Centurion Jul 23, 09, 10:02 pm He also had some Centurion cards though if you read through. I do not see the annual fee on those. Anyone else? versus Jul 24, 09, 3:39 am I found the two centurion business accounts aswell, and no I couldn't see the membership fee! Rambuster Jul 24, 09, 3:53 am Most of the airline travel was booked in whY ! :D kuroneko Jul 24, 09, 5:29 am Fascinating. Looks like he was at least good about redeeming his points instead of just letting them sit there :-) NickW Jul 24, 09, 11:52 am Most of the airline travel was booked in whY ! :D With the odd $80,000 charge for a private jet... daniellam Jul 24, 09, 12:51 pm Most of the airline travel was booked in whY ! :D Surprising, isn't it? I was expecting to see a few full fare "F" tickets that cost $10,000+ but didn't see any. mia Jul 24, 09, 1:43 pm I was expecting to see... Virtually none of the charges of these statment were made with card -55001 which was the one issued to Bernie Madoff; the activity is on the supplementary cards. However, if you look at the rewards summary near the end of each statement you can see that there were a pair of Centurion cards linked to the same Membership Rewards account, but billed separately. I would guess that the card -92003 was the one he used. deniah Jul 25, 09, 12:04 am sure wasted a lot of money on "trip protector" and etc i tip better than they do :p PIONEER Jul 25, 09, 1:05 am sure wasted a lot of money on "trip protector" and etc i tip better than they do :p I totally agree on both counts anaugle Jul 25, 09, 1:16 am Aside the from amounts, these could be John Doe's statements -- lots of random stuff...airplane tickets, restaurants, drugstores, gas, etc. Netflix? kevino Jul 25, 09, 2:23 am Should have used an SPG Amex for the Sheraton stay. ahrz Jul 25, 09, 9:14 am Most of the airline travel was booked in whY ! :D some intercontinental flights were booked in "full fare" economy (JFK to Nice, France with Delta for $4,400) , I guess they expected an upgrade with or without miles ;) platinumPizza Jul 25, 09, 1:25 pm This guy was out of control! mia Jul 25, 09, 8:37 pm ...random stuff...airplane tickets, restaurants, drugstores, gas, etc. Netflix? It appears the cards were used indiscriminately for personal and business expenses alike. I'm confident the users reimbursed the firm for their personal expenses, such as Mrs Madoff's groceries  . PIONEER Jul 26, 09, 10:36 am It appears the cards were used indiscriminately for personal and business expenses alike. I'm confident the users reimbursed the firm for their personal expenses, such as Mrs Madoff's groceries  . That raises an interesting issue, namely the IRS. If there were personal expenses that were reimbursed by the company, that's taxable income. Probably more important, (and I haven't seen any discussion of this yet), the IRS needs to be going after the extended family (especially the wife, who probably filed a joint return with Bernie) for any cash they received but didn't report. Even if they are all truly innocent of any collusion (hard to believe), they still have to be paying taxes on the income. It was the IRS that got Al Capone! sdix Jul 28, 09, 12:11 pm I think it's hilarious that they use expedia and buy the flight insurance.... Interesting 1 night stay in LA for $8000! silverthief2 Jul 30, 09, 9:02 pm Aside the from amounts, these could be John Doe's statements -- lots of random stuff...airplane tickets, restaurants, drugstores, gas, etc. Netflix? And $5,015 to the Montauk Yacht Club. :D TTT Jul 30, 09, 9:12 pm Anyone have an idea how Frank Dipascali could spend $2355.00 at the Shell Station in Cape May, NJ? My only guess would be jet fuel, but who knows. (07/08 statement, page 15/28 or page 52 of the doc) justforfun Jul 30, 09, 9:16 pm Anyone have an idea how Frank Dipascali could spend $2355.00 at the Shell Station in Cape May, NJ? My only guess would be jet fuel, but who knows. (07/08 statement, page 15/28 or page 52 of the doc) Or yacht fuel. kennycrudup Jul 31, 09, 1:33 am Anyone have an idea how Frank Dipascali could spend $2355.00 at the Shell Station in Cape May, NJ? My only guess would be jet fuel, but who knows. Auto repair? Many gas stations fix cars, too. Probably had a transmission go out. stimpy Jul 31, 09, 5:50 am How does one spend only $396.49 at Tiffany & Co, NYC? Was that maybe the fee to clean a $250,000 necklace or something? stimpy Jul 31, 09, 5:56 am Regarding all the economy flights, note that the names are for other people. Perhaps that is the staff who are not invited on the personal jet? mia Jul 31, 09, 9:38 am How does one spend only $396.49 at Tiffany ... While Tiffany's reputation is based on their high-end items, their average sale is quite modest. I am amazed I was able to find this again, but I recall reading a decade ago that Tiffany's average sale was $250 because they sell a high proportion of sterling giftware... http://www.professionaljeweler.com/archives/news/1999/033099story.html I don't think this has changed much. This 2008 article mentions that one of the company’s strongest product categories was also its least expensive— silver jewelry priced under $1,000 http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/11/business/11cnd-luxury.html and this 2008 article mentions that the average sale on tiffanys.com was $233 http://blogs.bnet.com/intercom/?p=1689 . platinumPizza Jul 31, 09, 11:03 am Auto repair? Many gas stations fix cars, too. Probably had a transmission go out. hahahah I hope your kidding??? You really think this guy fixed his cars at a gas station???? I can see it know. Aj you wana fix u bently here, I stole one I can swap out to mota fo u okay maybe not but you get what im saying:D kennycrudup Jul 31, 09, 11:19 am You really think this guy fixed his cars at a gas station? Why not? For all we know he could have been going to that guy for years and trusted him (or it could have been a sudden breakdown), and perhaps it wasn't his alleged "bently" being fixed but some more-pedestrian car. ttjoseph Jul 31, 09, 11:26 am Wow, a $1066 check at Per Se - but only a $60 tip. Do people really tip this low of a percentage at places like that, or did the wait staff just get screwed out of a decent tip? xyzzy Jul 31, 09, 1:06 pm Wow, a $1066 check at Per Se - but only a $60 tip. Do people really tip this low of a percentage at places like that, or did the wait staff just get screwed out of a decent tip?Per Se has a flat 20% service charge (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/15/nyregion/15tips.html). The $60 was an extra gratuity. ttjoseph Jul 31, 09, 6:52 pm Per Se has a flat 20% service charge (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/15/nyregion/15tips.html). The $60 was an extra gratuity. Thanks for the clarification. I guess it's clear how many times I've been there :) flamboyant 1 Aug 1, 09, 6:13 am No worries, I was not familiar with the fixed Per Se tip. I guess they tip per se there... Very interesting to see these statements! FlyingFinn Aug 3, 09, 12:49 am Agreed, very interesting. Notice that some of the airline ticket charges appear to be for award travel - i.e. 25$ charge on NW for JFK-MSP and 33$ on CO for EWR-TLV. Even people with seemingly unlimited amount of money (or credit!) are mileage-wise. totti Aug 3, 09, 4:26 am I just saw thsi thread today :o Very interesting, indeed! Recreation Aug 3, 09, 4:07 pm I think it's a common misconception that wealthy people don't care about saving money when they can. I agree that the Shell Gas purchase was probably for filling up a yacht. My 30 foot pontoon can suck away a few hundred dollars. I can't imagine what kind of bill an ocean faring boat would run. Oh, and "Mangy Moose" (in Wyoming) is a great name for a bar/restaurant! parpar22 Aug 3, 09, 5:44 pm Oh, and "Mangy Moose" (in Wyoming) is a great name for a bar/restaurant! And Quite an Awesome delicious place! josephstern Aug 13, 09, 7:33 am So is Ruth going to the movies in Florida by herself? With maybe a little trip to Publix for some Slimfast? I can't tell if those numbers are one full-fare ticket, or two seniors. Anyone? josephstern Aug 13, 09, 7:44 am When Frank goes to a restaurant, he must pay for all of the surrounding tables. He often has several large charges for the same restaurant on the same night. Often in beach towns. Anyone get comped dinner at the Sunset Grille in Ocean City?
