I've been wondering this for a while and never really thought to ask it here. I know that usually planes land and take off east to west except during Santa Ana winds when it is reversed. Is there any way to tell (other than visually seeing it) when it will be reversed? I'd like to see takeoffs from Balboa Park. My roomate recently told me he took off from west to east but I was out of town. Just wondering if it is announced anywhere when it is running in reverse.

You can call (619) 298-0997. This is a recording of the ATIS, automatic terminal information service, that provides pilots the information they need about weather, what types of approaches are being flown, and which runways are active. You can also go to Radio Shack or some other electronics store and buy an aircraft radio. This will allow you to listen to ATC for all the airports in your area.
