We now have all 777s with lie flat and slide down seats, upgraded from the few that were previously recliners. I'm never that bothered by IFE as I doze through long haul flights, but I see lots of moans about lack of AVOD.
I know AVOD is not a simple matter and it is not cheap to install. However, does anyone know whether there is any intention by Asiana to bite this bullet?
Judging by screams from KE users over what they often get served up with, I guess the local competition is hardly going to be putting pressure on OZ!

What's up.
Asiana is not a company with lots of cash, given in many recent articles about its mother-company Kumho group. I don't think Asiana will upgrade its non-AVOD to AVOD in near future. Unless for Koreans, Asiana's AVOD is s*** as much as non-AVOD. Simply not many decent choices. (Sorry I just fell in love with SQ's 112 movies and 2-300 short programs in 77W.) So don't expect much even with AVOD. Service, food, cheap fare (except for Korea dep/arr), *A mileage, etc. are still more than enough reasons we choose Asiana (or is it only me?)

No, I agree with you. And KE is not up to their standard in mnay ways, so no competition. But, it is the complaint from many US users.

I can't imagine that I have more than 50% of change sitting on one of old 772 without AVOD when I travel to ICN next month. Isn't AVOD essential to any long range flight like trans-pac? I took multiple 772 flights on AA and UA between NRT and ORD/SFO and all the plane were equipped with AVOD. Recent travel on AA, I was even playing card games and tetris on plane. I know OZ is famous for excellent on-board service and meals, but this should be upgraded in no time!!

I apologize if I made you confused. Non-AVOD means, there's personal tv in each seats but it's traditional loop with 6-9 channels, not on-demand type which you can start, pause, rewind, etc, whenever you want. Out of Asiana's 10 772s, 5 have on-demand PTV (AVOD), and other 5 have loop-type PTV only.
If you're traveling economy class mostly (like me), UA does not have AVOD. It's just non-AVOD personal TV. AA's recently-upgraded-system is a little bit different, but I'm not sure if it is AVOD or begins every 15 minutes thing (very close to on-demand, though). Games are obviously always on-demand if exist :)

Since he mentioned about AA and UA for ORD/SFO and NRT, I assume he is talking about C, as UA fly 747 with new C for both routes, which means new C with AVOD.

No. I didn't know what AVOD means. My experience with UA772 was personal TV with many movie channels. Movie usually starts all together... Recent experience with AA772 was even better. It is multi-channel and multiple-sequence of starting time which was quite convenient. Anyway it is quite interesting to see the airlines getting a better A/V system. Thanks for helping me out, bobbybrown and ORDnHKG!!
