Fairmont President's Club - Question about joining & upgrade certs

I read in an old thread about status matching that when you join the President's Club, you get an upgrade cert. Is that still true? I joined about a month ago, and I haven't received anything (which seems common, based on other threads). I called up, and they said that you don't receive any upgrade certs until you are elite...

As far as I know FPC doesn´t do any status matching (they even point this out quite clearly in their T&C that "status is not awarded based on the performance in other programs"), the only exception to the standard procedure is the Amex promotion (fewer stays required to gain Platinum). I guess the reason for this is that certs can be worth quite a bit of money.

Premier gets 1 room upgrade cert and one suite upgrade cert.
Platinum gets 2 room upgrade certs and 2 suite upgrade certs.
(Qualifying period is calendar year 2009, certs are sent out in Feb. 2010 and are valid from March 1, 2010 to February 28, 2011.
If you qualify before Sept 15 / Sept. 30, 2009 you get your certs within a couple of weeks which are valid until Feb. 2010 and are then sent another set of certs valid until Feb. 2011,which IMO is quite a nice perk of the program)

I was only referring to "status match" because it was mentioned in that thread, but in the context of sending certificates with every welcome package (for non-elites), as a reason why status matching is not that necessary. It was 2002, so it sounds like it has changed since then:

aviators99, I emailed the FPC asking if they would status match my SPG Platinum and received a prompt reply stating they no longer status match but as a consolation issued me a suite upgrade certificate redeemable by phone. Perhaps send them a nice email requesting the same?
