new allegations have been made that a number of passengers are being detained every month in the duty free area on suspicion of shoplifting, and then held by the police until they pay large sums of money to buy their freedom.

its hard to understand why Thailand, being so dependent on Tourism would tolerate this within their police force... I say install the death penalty for these bad apples, that will solve the problem... :mad:

Its doesn't have any existed the death penalty in Thailand. It will be face charge of shoplifting for trying to take the liquors out of the shop. This is inappropriate for behavior who trying to steal the liquors without paying the fees. This is not specific time to faced against death penaly case are out of the questions.

I do believe he didn't mean death penalty for the tourists. He meant it for the crooked officers and agents who using their badges and their power to extort and blackmail the tourists.
