I have been helping a friend get his VIP status with AA dining by registering my credit card on his account. (I have an i-dine restaurant near my house where it is easy to make small purchases.)

Two interesting things of note:

I did 4 dines for him last Thursday, but when I got home, I noticed that the cashier erroneously charge $0.14 to my credit card instead of $3.14 on one of the dines. I was sure that I would have to redo this dine as my friend is only earning 3 miles/$ at this time. Surprisingly, his number of dines to VIP were reduced by 4 even though only 3 dines posted (all the ones over $1).

Second thing is, we had dinner at a restaurant several weeks ago on a Wednesday night. Both of his dines for that night posted as if we had dined on the Thursday. Since you get double miles on Wed, but not on Thurs, he sent it in the receipts and the correction showed up on his account as "Courtesy Dining". Well both of the corrections counted as dines as well. ^

Not sure that this will interest many people since most of us are already all VIPs, but for a newbie just getting started, even a dine as small as $0.14 will get you a credit!

The one disastrous time I used the RN hotels program, the hotel significantly under-reported my bill, requiring me to submit my copy; I got credit for both the original (hotel-reported) miles, as well as the correct total later posted by RN. I don't believe they have a mechanism for deleting and reposting dines (and hotel stays); I'm thinking they consider letting the client keep the original credit is "compensation" for having to take the time and trouble to straighten out a matter not their fault.
Years ago, when iDine was an infant, I used to dine at a joint for Thursday lunch, having a business meeting nearby that day each week. They "batched" their transactions overnight, so they showed as Friday dines; Fri/Sat blackout meant I had to call each time, to be told to send the dated receipt - neither iDine nor the restaurant manager were interested when I mentioned it.
