Choice Privileges - extended stays for southwest flyers

If I have to stay for an extended period say 2 weeks or 4 months...

It is much better to take the points rather than the RR credits right?

Then I can convert points to miles or use for hotel stays later.

Are there any gotcha's or tips rgarding very long stays? Or how to make the most out of them. (especially for company paid extended stay travel)

I mostly use southwest but maybe Usair or Delta

Thanks for any advice.

Assuming you aren't going for a special promotion like the current 14,000 points for 3 stays, under the new conversion rates a Southwest credit costs 4000 Choice points, so going for points is the better deal if the pre-tax cost of your stay is over $200. Under $200, the 0.5 Southwest credit is the better deal.
