Three weeks ago, my family arrived in Nice on DL 82 nonstop from JFK for our 2-wk vacation. At the Alamo terminal counter, the surly clerk told us there was no car for us, that we should have prepaid in order to assure a car, and basically tough luck.
This was news to us. We had made the reservation back in April, and my French-speaking wife had called Alamo at NCE twice to enquire if a certain auto in a category might be available (the second call only two days before our arrival), and was never told by the helpful agent (supposedly!) about prepaying to guarantee a car.
Needless to say, you don't need to be met with this news or attitude after an overnight flight. Fortunately, I am a President's Club Avis member and they looked after us on the spot with an ok deal. QED: Caveat Emptor Alamo!!
