Chicago, IL – June 4, 2009 – Paraphrasing author Morris Mandel “… a name is the blueprint of the thing we call character …”
Since its Chicago debut in December 1987, the Fairmont hotel has been part of Chicago’s fundamental character and a local contributor to build upon the city’s rich culture and diversity. Effective immediately, the Fairmont Chicago hotel will modify the official name to Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park, giving the hotel an even greater identity of location and attachment to the city.

Located in a central city quadrant framed by Michigan Avenue, Wacker Drive, Randolph Street and Lakeshore Drive, the Fairmont has literally cast its shadow on some of Chicago’s development projects in recent years: Lakeshore East – a 28 acre community development; Aqua Chicago – an 82-story commercial and residential tower; and the 2004 completion of Chicago’s Millennium Park.

Keeping in step with all the new development and expansion of the area, Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park recently completed a $50-million renovation of the hotel that includes a new lobby, a new wine, cheese, and chocolate tasting room called ENO, a new lifestyle spa concept called mySpa, renovated and upgraded guestrooms and the addition of Fairmont Gold – Fairmont Hotels & Resorts branded lifestyle hotel experience. The new modern and contemporary elegance, designed by The Rockwell Group, incorporated took into consideration the authenticity of Chicago – architecture; styling, color, vibrancy and view. Taking advantage of the hotel’s proximity to Chicago’s iconic Millennium Park, the guestroom décor depicts the park’s earthy shades of color, the art of contemporary floral and the aesthetic use of modern space. And, many of the hotel’s guestrooms have spectacular views of the adjacent Millennium Park, as well as Grant Park, the Museum Campus and Lake Michigan.

“Chicago is a world-class city,” says General Manager, Andre Zotoff. “The adaption of the name is not just to help guests with the location of the Fairmont in the city of Chicago, but also to add a pivotal piece of the city to our name. By adding Millennium Park to Fairmont Chicago, we are combining the history of a great city with the legacy of an esteemed hotel.”

An urban haven in downtown Chicago, the Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park is the closest hotel to Millennium Park and just steps from the city’s bustling business district, as well as many of Chicago’s great attractions, such as Navy Pier, Soldier Field and the famous Museum Campus which includes Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and The Field Museum. Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park is the perfect destination for business, leisure and group travelers seeking a modern, luxurious experience that is adjacent to all the activity they come to Chicago to experience.
