Hi Virgin America experts,

quick question: I am holding a Main Cabin Select ticket (which, as I understand, can be changed & cancelled at no charge). What happens if I upgrade to First for $150 within 24 hours of the flight, and then AFTER upgrading, change my mind and would like to change the day.

Could you walk me through what happens to the $150 paid for the upgrade? Is it forfeited, or do I get it credited back, or does it transfer to the changed flight date?

Thanks.

As far as I know, this hasn't been tried. What I would do would be to attempt to *cancel* the flight (now that it is F), and make sure it is going to credit you back all of your monies paid, before you confirm. If it works, you would have a credit file, that you could apply to anything you want.

Again, I haven't tried it, so it could conceivably blow up on you. In any case, please let us know what happens.

I just called Virgin's 800 number, and they explained to me I would have to pay the delta in main cabin select fares for the two days, and the upgrade would carry over to the other day, although they didn't seem very convincing to me, so I wanted to ask if anyone has encountered this and knows what will happen.

Thanks.

i did this trying to save myself some money. when the day came that i needed ot use the credit, i was forced to buy a ticket that cost me $100 more than if i did the straight rebook without my shannigans.

That is impossible. A credit is the same as cash.

the cabin you purchased the fare in dictates the rules that would cover the change. though you are upgraded to FC, you paid the fare originally for MCS. there's no change fee for MCS, so it would cost you only the fare difference.

what also comes into play is how much time there is before the flight you want to move to.

if it's outside 24 hours, you simply pay the fare difference and outright purchase a FC fare when they rebook you on the new flight. since fares are non-refunadable, you would get a credit file for the fare & upgrade fee you already paid (which could both be used to offset the fare difference on the new flight). any remaining amount would stay as a credit file.

if it's within 24 hours, they cancel the existing flight to generate credit files for what you've already paid, then you get booked into MCS on your new flight and they'd use those credit files to offset the fare difference and upgrade you to FC on the new flight.
