Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles - IST connection question (Baggage)

Just a couple of short questions:

1. If I fly the following flights, do I have to collect my luggage at IST?


Day 1: TK1980 London(LHR) Istanbul(IST) 11:25 17:20 77W

Day 2: TK050 Istanbul(IST) Tokyo(Narita) 17:10 11:00+1 343


2. If I am able to through-check the luggage at IST, then it will be at IST airside, unattended for 23h50m. Should I worry about pilfering and/or possibility of lost baggage?

I have not had to collect my bags at IST in such circumstances and I've had no instances of having items swiped from checked luggage at IST AFAIK, but I always make sure to see that my bag is tagged all the way to its final destination. It could be a case where your mileage may vary, but whatever you do pay attention to what the baggage tag has down on it. [If the bag is tagged for IST and NRT, then it will be forwarded to NRT without you having to do a thing at IST.]
