So I am about to hit 270,000k in spending at the next billing cycle and I am wondering if they have actually declined anyone who has made the 250k requirement?
I called in couple months ago and they said I was shy of spending but everything else looked okay. I dont want to get declined or I will be pissed off.
PLEASE NO REPLY IN REGARDS TO THE CARD SUCKS OR NOT WORTH IT. POST IN THE OTHER MILLION THREADS.

If you called and asked, and they said that "everything else looked ok" then you should be fine.
Otherwise they would have mentioned something problematic in your account that would affect the application.
but keep in mind that they will do another credit pull when you "upgrade" since it's a new application.

I recall reading here that someone was declined for Centurion because "they didn't meet the profile of American Express". I also recall people being turned down because they did not have a sufficient history with Amex. Just FYI. You can search those topics and probably find more.

There was another person (it could be the same person you were talking about) that was declined. Although he met the spending requirement he was declined when Amex pulled a credit report and found that his debt ratio was to high.

Surely Centurion membership is by invitation only, so the notion of being declined (or, for that matter, of being accepted) does not apply.

"By Requirement Only" is probably a better description, with annual spend north of $250k being the most significant hurdle.

You get invited to apply. You application can still be rejected.

The truth is 250k is the first marker, they will pull a hard credit score on the phone (yes u can request a card, you do NOT have to wait for an invitation). If you score is low (less than 680-700) they will then analyze the report and delay the process, if above 700, its a done deal as long as you accept the fees, and have an hour to kill as they explain every benefit. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

... plus the third requirement that you have been an Amex cardholder for at least a year.

I meet it all with flying colors so I shouldn't have a problem as long as this other review crap doesn't get drug out.

When I called to accept the invitation they asked some basic questions on the phone and things got interesting when we discussed what my monthly spending would be on the card. I did this based on the maximum month of the past year. Everything was fine and I "was approved" on a Friday. In subsequent conversations with Amex, I learned that I wasn't officially approved until the Monday which leads me to believe the higher the limit, the deeper the search.

So you got a invite with less than 250k spending?

Yeah, they don't like to give the card to someone who's clearly spending more than they should be. Other than that, it seems like anyone who meets the spend and is basically financially sound, they'll gladly take your $7,500. I would, too!

I assume you mean $270K for the year?
When I got my first Cent Card back in early 2000's, the minimum spend was $100,000 per year to the best of my memory.
FYI, I was later told by Amex there is NO minimum spend after you are accepted and meet the first year Cent requirements. I certainly didn't spend $100,000 per year on mine after year one.
I have since dropped my Centurion Card in favor of a Platinum Card and a Starwood Card because Amex raised my annual fee.
(side story for another thread; I am still a big Amex fan, no sour grapes here.)
Having said that, I don't miss my Cent Card at all... it was cool... but Plat provides me with 99% of the travel perks I need from Amex.

Amex Platinum, in most countries, is one of the best premium cards (bang for the buck) in the market.
