My parents, sister, and I will be spending a night in Charleston before continuing on to our week in Hilton Head at the end of July. Currently, my mother is looking at the various properties listed on www.charminginns.com:

Kings Courtyard Inn

Fulton Lane Inn

Victoria House Inn

John Rutledge House Inn

Wentworth Mansion

All of these are in the $150-$200/night range and look lovely. I'm leaning toward the Rutledge just for the historical value, but does anyone have any experience (positive or negative) with any of these?

Also, is there somewhere else (downtown) in this price range that we really should check out?

Thanks!

Ummm... .not talking about WV:confused:

I've stayed in Charleston countless times and lived there for a while but I haven't stayed at any of these specific places. I know the Wentworth is gorgeous. I'd look on Trip Advisor for some reviews.

I've stayed at Wentworth. It is very opulent in a heavy, dark, somewhat masculine way. No Laura Ashley nothin' there.

And Tripadvisor ratings likely note that it is a bit removed from the area you would care to be in as a tourist. Fine on a spring day, but this time of year it would be a long hot walk . . .

Nothing in Charleston is really far from anything. But yes, walking around in the heat isn't very fun... and this is coming from a born and raised South Carolinian.

The Rutledge is right in the middle of everything.
