After the Avis fiasco (where fake Avis coupons were sold on ebay/craigslist) I realized that the new market now is National... I wanted to know if any one bought these coupons on ebay and if they are real.

Here is a link to a bunch of them for sale:

The ones I saw look like valid coupons but you can find them for free quite easily. One was from the entertainment book, one was for visa card holders. The visa one you can find free below and no printout is needed:

The entertainment book coupon you probably need a hard copy.

I just tried it on a dummy res (didn't book it). It accept the coupon to get me to the car selection page, but none of the available cars could be combined with the coupon. So when I got to the rate page, it said "coupon cannot be applied to this reservation", kind of like if you chose a pick-up truck on a 1-2-Free reward. However, this could be their way of not accepting it, by making it impossible to redeem on any car class that is available. Now if they REALLY wanted to be mean, they could make it valid only on the 22 ft flatdeck truck. So you get a free day but you're strapping your luggage/family/business clients down in the back. :D

I should also point out I tried this for YVR and not all their car classes were available.

It worked for me on a dummy LAS weekend rental. I wouldn't trust the T&Cs to be completely represented on eBay, including restricted car classes and form of payment. It may be a coupon that has to be presented.

Quite commonly sale, barter and transfer is prohibited by U.S. coupons.

I would not trust any seller on eBay after the Avis fiasco.

Right, selling the coupon itself is prohibited, but you can circumvent that. E.g. sell your time that you spent collecting the coupon.

If these coupons have a generic code, I would be suspicious.

Ron.
