West - Flagstaff AZ hotel recommendationsView Full Version : Flagstaff AZ hotel recommendations pallensf Jul 7, 09, 9:56 am any suggestions as to fave places that you have stayed at for lodging? thanks, Patrick;) AZ_MISMAN Jul 7, 09, 10:27 am Patrick, Folks in the Marriott forum have recommended the Residence Inn (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marriott-rewards/622902-residence-inn-flagstaff.html?highlight=Flagstaff); if you do a search over there, you will get additional information. I've never stayed there as I'm just over 2-hour drive to Flagstaff, and don't find it necessary. Do you need to stay in Flagstaff for a reason? Personally, I find Flagstaff to just be a small city that is destroying the beauty around it. (I can say this because I live in eastern AZ, and see the same thing going on here!) It has grown so because of its proximaty to Phoenix and the easy drive up I-17. It also is one of the gateways to the Grand Canyon. If you don't need to stay in Flagstaff proper, you may want to look to Williams, AZ, about 30-miles west. It is the other gateway to the Grand Canyon, and even has the depot for the Grand Canyon Railroad (http://www.thetrain.com). You'll find a few hotels, but mostly B&Bs in Williams. Some folks like Sedona, south of Flagstaff. It's not my thing (too "artsy" for my taste,) but the drive up Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff is very cool. For what it's worth, I'd prefer to be in San Francisco than Flagstaff any day... but that's just me. pallensf Jul 7, 09, 11:32 am Thank you for the wonderful information! :-) I did check out the Marriott & it looks great. Most likely will be staying there, will let you know of my outcome. :-) The reason why I am venturing to FLG is because my dad just relocated there. I will have more questions to ask you I am certain. Again, thank you and I shall be in touch. Patrick in SFO ;) PDXOutbound Jul 7, 09, 1:54 pm Thank you for the wonderful information! :-) I did check out the Marriott & it looks great. If you're not into the city location, then the residence inn is nice, the Hilton Garden Inn is nice. Downtown has the Hotel Monte Vista, for a little downtown Flag feel, but it's more like an upscale Hostel then a hotel with a bar downstairs and the like. Little America is resort (ish) and very large and alot of people like it. Kind of midway in the city but right off I-40. Flag books up some summer weekends fast. I can't tell you how often the Grand Canyon and other activities can sell out the decent places. All the major chains are there. The Embassy Suites is also close enough to downtown to walk. (About 1 1/2 miles from food/bars/coffee) and has plenty of parking. Update: If you like coffee, go to Macy's European coffee house and get the special. MMMMM. pallensf Jul 7, 09, 9:49 pm sweet...more great recommendations! I luv it! thank you...and yes, I adore coffee...:-) I shall check out Macy's. mahalo, Patrick luv2buynfly Jul 26, 09, 1:45 pm +1 for Little America! schistosomiasis Aug 1, 09, 3:35 pm Hotel Monte Vista if you want something historic and right downtown- but not for everyone I've stayed at the Residence by Marriott 2X within the last 8 weeks at the govt rate, would recommend Drury Inn just opened up adjecent to the NAU confernce center, it's very nice and brand sparkling new, but probably most expensive place in town. Saw lots of tour groups there. Radisson in Flagstaff used to be the "best" hotel until Drury Inn opened. I stayed there once and didn't think it was too much better than Residence Inn, although their Japanese restaurant is highly recommended. I also stayed at the Quality Inn on Milton Road (accross from the Residence Inn) which isn't as nice as the hotels above but for $65 a night including tax the weekend before Memorial Day it was worth it. Word to the wise, there are many hotels in Flag that are dumps, or that have train noise during the night which will prevent you from getting any sleep whatsoever! Added: for eating try the Beaver Street Brewery. If you like Indian/ Nepal food, definitely go to the Himalayan Grill (my friend who's Nepalese recommended it to me!) Lonely Flyer Aug 4, 09, 3:51 pm Word to the wise, there are many hotels in Flag that are dumps, or that have train noise during the night which will prevent you from getting any sleep whatsoever! There is a saying: If you are staying in a Hotel in Flagstaff and cannot hear the train at 2am then you are not in Flagstaff. I must plug however as a six year resident there that Macy's European Cofee House has the best coffee IMHO. Late for the train is good though. |
