Sometimes airlines have promotions for new FF program members (e.g., $99 companion tickets). If I started a membership in my child's name, and I was his "companion" for that trip, would there be any rules preventing this? Of course, my credit card would pay for the trip, and as card holder I would be a ticketed passenger on that flight. Anyone out there with experience with this idea? I'm sure I'm not the first to think of it.

Check the March Issue of InsideFlyer.
Our friend NJDavid contributed a story based on an experience like this. (It's probably also in the archives.)
Basically: this CAN BE DONE.
OMNI: Originally when I thought of the posting I thought of "Sleepless in Seattle" when Tom Hanks's son wanted to get to NYC to meet the totally beautiful Meg Ryan. So he had his "girlfriend" Gaby Hoffman I think buy tickets on the internet (her mom in story was a travel agent.)
Now that can be illegal.
