Air New Zealand Air Points - Check through baggage & boarding passes

I have a BMI Diamond Club redemption booked for LAS-LAX-LHR with US & NZ. I understand that I should be able to check-in at LAS, get my baggage checked through to LHR so that I do not have to handle it again, and get boarding passes for both flights at LAS.

Does this sound correct and has anyone recent experience on this route? How easy was the process at the US ticket counter at LAS? Thanks.

Checking the bags through shouldn't be a problem...

You will almost certainly have to stop by the NZ check in at LAX however to get the "real" BP for the LHR segment... NZ doesn't seem to accept any BP's issued by "others"...

BTW....On Tuesday I checked in with US at LAS on my way to PHX to start a seperately ticketed PHX-LAX-AKL-SYD and the agent was quite prepared to tag my bags for both itineraries...^^

THAT was unexpected!

Thanks trooper. If I have to collect a boarding pass from Air New Zealand at LAX, does that mean I will have to go through security again at LAX. I was hoping to get away with one security check at LAS.

US uses T1 and NZ T2 and there is no airside connection thus you will have to clear T2 security regardless.

You can get the BP swapped at check in, at the lounge or at the gate. No need to spend ages in a queue (other than security).

Not always the case, as NZ accepts a variety of other airlines' BPs. I know from personal experience being the crew member at the boarding door

That's interesting.... I got into the habit of always picking up a "real" one from NZ after early experiences with UA/US issued BP's......

...so I might be doing more than necesary sometimes! :D

Not a biggie of course....

Thanks again. I think I have it now. Check bags through at LAS, get a US issued boarding pass for the NZ flight. Transfer from T1 to T2 landside at LAX. Perhaps pick up a NZ boarding pass at check-in if no queue (travelling Biz so hopefully separate line and not too busy), otherwise fast track security and just check at lounge or gate whether NZ issued boarding pass required.

Sounds like a plan....^

T1 and T2 are really close of course so that's a nice bonus...

I don't know whether it's my "timings" or what.. but I've never had to wait.. well, at all really at the premium check in at LAX... (yes, it is distinct/separate)

Have a great trip!

In my experience it is only flights to NZ that require reissuing the BP.
