Hertz - Got Keys Can I leave it on the Lot 2 Hours?

At my location I will be going to the lot is in the parking garage next to the airport.
Once I have picked up the keys can I then let the car sit on the lot for a couple of hours (2-4) before I leave the airport. Suppose this would wierd them out as they would know it had not exited the exit booth for some time or is this not uncommon.
If my luggage is lost and say has to come in on the next flight I would like to get my car rental wrapped up and the carry on luggage put in it instead of twittling my thumbs for a few hours to then have an unexpected long rental line later.
Or is their some other maner to handle this and accomplish the same thing. Dont really want to pull the car out of the lot and move it over to paid parking.

So you're assuming your luggage will be delayed? I'm confused to the benefit of doing this or why. If you were waiting to meet someone else, I'd just schedule my arrival time closer to theirs, rather then my earlier one.
If you are traveling to a "Gold Canopy" location, they won't know you've arrived and taken the keys until after you go to check out (keys are in the vehicle and you check out a central booth upon exit of the lot), so it would just delay your "pick-up time" and it may generate concern from the agents because they cannot locate the keys when they see the vehicle has not been picked up after 2 hours (they'll assume its a no-show).

I've done it before - several times. Usually because I'm meeting someone flying in on a different flight or simply going back into the terminal to retrieve wife/kids/larger luggage.
If it's a large station, I don't say anything. I might toss my carry-on bag on the front seat so people know someone has been to the car. At a smaller station, I will try to find someone to tell that I'm going back inside the terminal. I've done it both with Hertz and with National. (I try harder to tell someone at National because of the confusion that could arise if someone else wants that car on the Exec Aisle.)

What is the official Hertz policy on no-shows? As in, how long? I know from experience with National at major airports they keep your booking in the system for 12 hours past the pick-up time on Executives and up (heard it from a rep on the "special" line).

Usually they will give Gold customers two hours. PC's get 4...maybe 6. If your delay is because of a flight delay then don't worry about it. As long as you put your arriving flight info on your reservation then they will know about the delay and you'll be fine.

I am not concerned about late arrival.
I just want to get the car (on time) with the keys in my hand so everything is ready to go, then go back into the airport for a couple of hours to attend to other business (i.e. lost luggage etc. if needed).
I will actually be renting from Budget but that board does not get much activitiy so I though I would check here.
Thanks for all the input so far but I still am not to clear on this yet.

Yup, at MCO I was scheduled to pick up my car at midnight, but my flight was delayed by 2 hrs so I landed at 2:00 am. When I looked at the papers, I saw they were printed out at 12:30 am, so they obviously already anticipated my late arrival and assigned (upgraded me) a car later.
