Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Gold Renewal Criteria

Just received a letter from MPO that they will only require 48k for Gold Renewal. I already have around 28k, so 20k left. Just when I am contemplating to drop back to Silver...it looks like I have to attempt a mileage run and enjoy Gold for another year?

I hope they also change the renewal criteria for Diamond accordingly.

we had some discussions earlier on this already:
reduced requal requirements (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cathay-pacific-asia-miles/949068-reduced-requal-requirements.html)
but your example is an even better deal...20% off the requirements vs. the 15% off I heard. but luckily (at least from my own view) so far we haven't heard about this being done for Diamonds yet...

Just out of curiosity, why do you not want more people in Diamond?

Just out of curiosity, why do you not want more people in Diamond? I thought that would be obvious - competition for op-up, limited lounge capacity, dilution of the membership potentially leading to some reduction in benefits... to name a few. Mind you, there are already thousands of diamonds so an extra few hundred won't make too much difference. :)

I had similar thought back in 2006. Given it is so easy for KA members to qualify for DM by segments, there will be a lot more DMs on the TPE and long haul.
In the end, CX needs to do what works best for the company.
My partner was 11,000 miles short of hitting gold, with a Feb 2009 expiry and they made no exception. Asked for an extension and got a verbal one month extension to re-qualify gold. However, did not bother to do the mileage run.
Looks like you got a good deal. Wish they would have reduced the requirement in our case.

Well, in my case, I was given Silver in 2007/2008 even when I was short of a few thousand miles (from Green). Then, I qualified to Gold for 2008-2009 with 60k++ miles (definitely not overqualified by a lot).
So, I am grateful that MPO decided to waive 20% off the requalification for Gold this year. And it does look like I will attempt to make good use of it!
