Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Hand luggage grief

I'm surprised CX isn't stricter with hand luggage, particularly in Y. Flew to JNB the other day and it was impossible to find space in the overhead stowage. People were coming onboard with 2 and more pieces and one fellow even came with a toy truck that was well beyond the acceptable size for hand luggage. Apart from the nuisance value, it appeared to delay departure by about 30 min while crew scrambled looking for additional stowage space.

I always wonder about that. They are so strict with checked luggage but seems to look the other way with hand baggage. No wonder all these passengers around me are carrying bigger (and heavier) baggages aboard and I've already seem many mini-arguments because of it (people are offended that one person takes up the entire row of baggage space and the other people have no place to put them, etc.

People around me was carrying hand carry baggge almost like a mini luggage(the trolley type of baggage).

I realised that only at HKG , they are more strict for the check in luggage.

I was at YVR that day , departing to HKG .
Our baggage exceeded almost 1.5kg/luggage.

The guy was very kind, he placed a Business class tag on all of our luggage ^

Onboard the 777-300, its almost impossible to find enough place to store your hand carry bag.Looks like you can only store 2 above each 3 seats for example A,B,C
If everyone is carrying big hand carry bag, i do not know where can the other people place their hand carry !!!

About time they enforced sensible 1 pc carry on for Y and 2 pc for premium and make it withing acceptable size limits, I think FF's abuse it the most to be honest

Well, I usually just carry a laptop case and a medical kit, because I don't feel like battling for luggages and arguing with people. I am also so glad that I am elite so I can usually get into the flight early, because now 90% of the time I see flight attendants scrambling to put people's luggages elsewhere. Most of the time I see flight attendants having to put Economy passengers' carry on luggages to Business class (I'm sure the Bizclass people appreciate that.)

Before there was this 7kg limit of carry-on. But somehow it suddenly disappeared. The checkin agents never weigh them anymore.

Same here. In general I only have one bag with my laptop, some books/magazines/newspapers, legal documents, iPod, a jacket, and the neck/back pillows. Then I put that bag underneath the seat in front of me and I treat it as my footrest.

I normally do not hand-carry what I do not use in-flight, to avoid competing for overhead storage and forgetting to take away during de-board. I have no idea what other people put in all those heavy luggages which they hardly touch at all for the whole 15-hour flight (TPAC). Well, I just take it as I am a little different :confused:

I am focusing on long-haul flights here, and of course short-hauls are different as I understand nobody wants to pay for checked baggages.

As frequent JFK-HKG-JFK person I can say this statement is not completely accurate.

Actually, it is HKIA doing the screening at the gate, I think they tend to look for oversize items which is easier to spot than weight. You are right, most US airports don't really enforce that.

This seems to be a universal problem, not only can you read similar complaints in other forums here, but a bill has been introduced in the U.S. Congress to control carry-on sizes and weights under U.S. law.

Good, it's getting more and more ridiculous. I've seem people carry full-blown bags into the craft.

what on earth is de-board ? dont you mean disembark, when you take off your trousers do you de-trouser, or de-sock when taking off your socks, or even de-bed when getting up in the morning :D
