Hi there,

I'm looking at buying my first SLR and was considering the Pentax Km/K2000. Reviews I've read so far as pretty good but I fear that over time I may be limited with what the camera has to offer.

Any toughts? obviously budget is a big factor.

Thanks

I've had Pentax cameras since the late 1960s, and think very highly of them. I had several film cameras, starting with a Spotmatic, and my first digital SLR was a K100D Super. About six months ago I upgraded to a K20D.

If you want to get into SLR photography, I think the KM/K2000 would be fine. I think almost any SLR nowadays would work, the important thing is to get it and start taking photos!

A big advantage of the Pentax system is that you can use thousands of older lenses, although some features may not work. Craigslist and auction sites are full of these older lenses, and they're generally of superlative quality. Pentax is known for great glass.

I know these types of decisions can be agonizing, but pick a camera and get it and have fun.

I would not buy into the Pentax system right now if I were to start over. I've had Pentax cameras for years and I love mine well enough but if I were starting from scratch I'd buy into one of the bigger brands where there are more options for accessories/lenses and higher volumes such that the secondary market is more active.
