American Express Membership Rewards - SPG Amex airflight insurance

My SPG Amex statement this month included two charges for $8.99 for airflight insurance. I never signed up for it. Called Amex and they are crediting the amount back to my account. I asked how that happened since I have never purchased travel insurance - ever. I was told the record shows me signing up for the service in 3/08 - she said someone must have transferred me to that department signing people up for this insurance. I now have to call the correct department to cancel this service (that I never signed up for) on Monday.

Has this happened to anyone before?

Experienced the same thing. Thanks for the initial post. You have to watch these CC companies like a hawk - always trying to pull something. I just opened this account and they must have slipped in the travel insurance. I bought a $99 ticket and had $40 in insurance fees charged by AMEX. Call to resolve.

If you have multiple Amex cards, make sure you check all of them. I supposedly was signed up for 3 of my cards.
