Cathay has just cancelled the first leg of our RTW trip to commence in Oct. They seem to have pushed us to the next flight which is a day later and now stops in north Australia (as opposed to the original domestic flight). The earlier and later flights don't suit our plans.
Just wondering what our rights are here given we are 3 months away from flying and though we haven't got an immediate connecting flight or booked accommodation yet, we would like to get some recompense.
Neither of us are Cathay FF, however we have flown business on Cathay for work.
I appreciate your help!

Which airline ticketed it? The most you'll get is a full refund - are you suggesting you want more than that?

You can get your tickets refund or you can try to ask them to put you on another oneworld carrier at around the same time of your original flight if available.
we would like to get some recompense.
Unfortunately, none.

seems to me you are happy this has happened and are hoping CX will contribute to your holiday

What is your route?
The best you can get is to leave a day earlier, or have your ticket rerouted by CX to get you to your destination on the same day on another OW carrier.
No compensation due as the 'notice' was given to you way in advance of your original travel date.

Welcome to FT....hopefully you understand that while schedule changes are inconvenient, you definitely aren't entitled to anything.
