I'm hoping to fly first class on VX soon and was wondering what the typical first class meals consisted of. Also, what times do first class meal service occur and which routes? Is there still first class meal service on LAX-SEA? Are the purchase meal items for main cabin free for first class guests?

Hi airjetoo, welcome to FlyerTalk!
Aviators99 maintains a great FAQ section (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/virgin-america-elevate/838255-virgin-america-vx-faq-thread.html) which has this link to the menu (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/11782739-post5.html) (posted by SkaterJasp on May 20).
Hopefully that will help answer your questions. As for the service times, I'm sure someone in this forum will be more than happy to help you :).

I have searched and searched this board but cannot find a clear answer: If I book into 1st but don't care for the meal selection, can I instead ask for food off the Main Cabin menu without charge? Or am I locked into the seemingly more limited 1st menu?

You can ask for food from the Main Cabin selection at no charge. I have had the Chex Mix while in First Class from SAN-SFO. Flying First Class allows you to have anything that they have on-board.

you can always check hungry.virginamerica.com.
it doesn't differentiate which items are in which fare class, however.

Thanks - as long as I can get what I want off Red at no charge like MCS, I'm happy. I called to double check and they said the same so I went ahead with the UG. Kind of surprised to see 3 of 8 open 20 hours out JFK-LAS......

The menu at hungry.virginamerica.com is currently the for-sale menu available to anyone on-board, regardless of fare class. The only difference is Red will charge for the products in Coach, and will read as "free" for the same products in MCS. In First, you have to ask, but can request anything off the Red Eat menu. The First menu is not currently listed on the VX website, but everyone here has been pretty diligent about keeping it updated in the FAQ.

Minor correction:
In First, the items do not appear as "free". In fact, they don't appear at all. The food menu is disabled in First.

Yeah, that is a pain :( You have to pester the FA for a snack

As I just found out an hour ago ;-) On the plane now and indeed there is no RED menu in 1st. Not even a printed menu with the 1st class meal options. And I do find that disappointing. I like to be able to browse the options. To VX's (or at least my particular FA's) credit, she was able to tell me exactly what was in the options (biggest pet peeve on legacy carriers is this scenario: FA - "Chicken or Pasta". Me = "What is in those?" (i.e. sauce, sides, etc), FA - "I'm not sure." Ugh.).
And while she did say I could have anything off RED complimentary, I'd either have to know what I wanted or have her recite everything. IMHO, the RED menu should in on the Fist IFE. Being in First should only enhance my experience, not detract in any way.
That said, overall, I'm quite loving the VX experience :) My trip back on AA might have me evaluating how I prioritize status/miles vs. comfort. I plan a comparison review....

Hmmm. Noon flight, SFO-LAS. In F, snack basket with taro chips and various other prepackaged items is passed around as the food for the flight. Guess they dumped the tapas.
