The Caribbean - Anyone here been to SXM?

Hey all,

Am thinking of blowing some BD miles on a US flight to SXM (St Maarten, in the Netherlands Antilles) during some time out on a US trip. Sounded exotic and relaxing. But....have no idea what the place is like. Anyone on this forum been to SXM and can recomend it?

This isn't really a bmi issue, so we'll move the query to the Caribbean forum for some expert responses. :)

We spent a day in St Maarten/St Martin while on a cruise. It is definitely one of the Islands we are looking forward to spending more time on.

Beautiful place with lovely water. There seemed to be enough activities to keep you busy if you want. Being able to cross back and forth between the Dutch and French sides without bother was a plus. The best of both worlds.

I ciompletely agree with MoreMilesPlease. I've been to many islands and St. Maarten is at the top of my list to return to. It is beautiful. Very relaxing and peaceful. Gorgeous water. You will love it.

I've done a handful of weekend trips then (and a pair of longer trips on watercraft), and that island is one of my favorite escapes from reality.

There is plenty to do; you can catch a ferry to Anguilla if you like from the French side town of Marigot. Flights to nearby islands are expensive, but if money is no object...

My favorite spot is drinking beer at the sunset beach bar watching the heavies come in.

I would highly recommend SXM. Great nightlife, great shopping, great restaurants and very reasonably priced.

Have been thinking out of the box now and I think I'll do some island-hopping while I'm there too.....will head to Aruba for a few days and then on to Curacao too for 2 nights, before heading back to the world of work and responsibility!

From SXM to CUR is 1hr 45mins gate-to-gate.
