Hello,

I fly with my wife in october from LAX to AKL in eco. We have some very cheap booking class. So I tried to upgrade via star alliance website online, but no success. Than I called Air New Zealand, but they told I do not have the suitable booking class for an upgrade.

So my question is, is their any other options or chance to get these upgrades with star alliance miles?

Is their a hope to upgrade with miles from star alliance on check in day?

I their any hope for me?

Thank you!

To use the *A mileage upgrades you need to be in very high economy booking classes (Y and B from memory - fare is probably double what you paid). Otherwise only NZ instruments (airbucks, vouchers), or get extremely lucky with an op-up.

So odds stacked against you. But at least NZ has just about the best economy class product of any airline - 34" pitch on 747 (32" on 777), great AVOD, good food drink and friendly service.

Thanks for answer and to reassure me, that we will survive eco. But I will not give up me hope trials and hope. Especially this will be my honeymoon. And I already fly from Germany to USA in Business with Swiss. So it will be hard to change plane to eco from LAX to AKL. You think it is possible to change my *A-Miles with somebody who has vouchers or airbucks? So I mean I can book for example for somebody a award with my miles on Lufthansa for example. And he can book me an upgrade on his airbucks or vouchers? Just an idea!

If you had made 90 posts, you would be able to access Coupon Connection (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/coupon-connection-373/).

That forum is generally used by people to trade travel-related coupons, etc.

On cheap fares upgrades are standby only (except if status u/g vouchers clear ahead of day of travel).
