If I travel through Auckland on my way to Sydney, do I need to retrieve my luggage to clear customs and then recheck the bags?
Thanks,

Thanks, Mapleloaf SFO_FT Jun 24, 09, 1:26 pm Assuming your bags are through-checked, then no need. Kiwi Flyer Jun 24, 09, 1:44 pm As long as bags are checked through then just go through international transit security to get to departures. lindsaygardiner Jun 24, 09, 11:47 pm Sorry to gatecrash, but kinda along the same lines. I'm flying to SYD with a 4 hour layover before a flight to MNL. If i get my bags checked through to MNL from AKL, am I able to leave the airport and then just go to the check in desk to pick up my next boarding pass? Opposed to going to the transfer desk where I won't be able to go landside. Kiwi Flyer Jun 25, 09, 12:57 am So you are going AKL-SYD-MNL? If you through check bags and all on one ticket then you can check in at AKL for both flights and just go through immigration. That would save time spent queuing at check in at SYD. There's not a lot you can do with 4 hour int->int connection, especially if your AKL flight arrives early morning (when it can easily take an hour or more to clear immigration and customs). catper33 Jun 25, 09, 7:11 pm Sorry to gatecrash, but kinda along the same lines. As Kiwi Flyer pointed out immigration/customs queues can be substantial plus there are long queues for check in desks as well when you were collecting your onward boarding pass. Much safer to stay put. lindsaygardiner Jun 25, 09, 9:21 pm Yep, flying AKL-SYD-MNL via BNE. Yeah I know it's not much time to do anything, but thought it would give me something to do. Since I won't have any luggage I should be able to go through the express customs lane? Just thought if it's possible then I will organise a care package for a friend and get them to meet me at the airport. Any way to get my SYD-MNL boarding pass at AKL check in, rather than going to the transfer desk or check in desks at SYD? Kiwi Flyer Jun 25, 09, 9:25 pm If it is all one ticket then you can check in for both flights at AKL. If separate tickets then you won't be able to get boarding pass until SYD. Even with no bags it can still take a long time to get landside at SYD early morning. I never check bags and it has taken me anywhere up to 100 minutes. lindsaygardiner Jun 25, 09, 11:14 pm Thanks for the info. All one ticket so will see how I go when I get to the airport. As I said, it would give me something to do while I'm waiting! |
