Can anyone recommend a good (clean and modern) hotel as near as possible to MIA for a one night stay?

I was very happy recently with the Sofitel. The airport hotels are served by shuttle buses which go to and from the departures level.

Newest hotel close to MIA is the Hilton Garden Inn.
For relatively short and inexpensive (just overnight) I usually stay at the Hampton Inn-South also a member of the Hilton chain ...both have pools and frequent free shuttles running to the airport.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

Remember that all the hotel shuttle buses pick up and drop off one level up at departures. I waited at the arrivals level for quite a bit before realising. Hire car and parking lot buses are on the arrivals level.

I second both HGI and Hampton. If your stay is weekend check Hilton, where you may see rates down to $90.

Beware former Sheraton Miami Mart, now rebranded xxx Miami Mart, unless mold/mildew is your taste.

Any 4 Star Bid on Priceline.com for $50 Usually works for me : Hilton, Marriott or Sofitel. A collegue also tries 3.5 star [$45] hoping for the Embassy Suites [Free Cocktails and Breakfast] but has always gotten the Wyndham. YMMV

For a Cheap and Cheerful overnight : When you are asleep all Airport Hotels look the same.

We'll let this run for a day or so before moving to the Florida (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/florida-451/)board.

We’ve stayed at the Intercontinental West Miami (http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/intercontinental/en/gb/locations/overview/miami-west) on two occasions after an inbound flight from LHR & found it to be very good indeed.

Probably would need a car though, although there may be a shuttle to MIA, I’m not sure.

IC West Miami is probably my pick. The CP is nice enough and never too expensive. The HI Miami Airport is pretty good too, having recently been refurbished.

All have free shuttles and again remember to get them from the departures level. On more than one time I've forked out for a taxi as I got fed up of waiting at arrivals for one to show up!!!

Agree w/ Hilton. Nice one. If you ask (& tip) nicely, they even drive you around the corner to a restaurant that offers more than just run-off-the-mill food.

The Sofitel is OK but not very special.

The MO is only 15-20 mins away if you want somewhere nice.

Another option in the Airport South area is the Hyatt Summerfield Suites (located adjacent to the Sofitel). The staff is VERY pleasant and professional, suites are good-sized with kitchens and a good selection of channels on the flat-panel TVs, breakfast and wi-fi are provided at no additional charge, and the shuttle starts at 05:00, which is helpful for early departures:

You can't get any closer than the Miami International Hotel that is right in the terminal. I have stayed there several times and found it quite decent. There is a fairly good restaurant and even a pool.
