Hi Everyone:
Just checking the flight loads on 879 (SFO-HKG) on September 2nd. Seems to be sold out in all classes, while all other flights remain wide open.
Sold out already? What's up?
Thanks.

Airlines usually zero out a flight's availability prior to removing it from the schedule.

Thanks. Think they would do that just two months out?

I concur. It seems that CX879 is returning to 4 days/week schedule in September.

Talked with CX 747 pilot a little bit ago, he mentioned they were either a.) cutting it entirely or b.) trimming service back. He didn't know which.

879/870 has been cut from the booking system every Mon, Wed, Fri for Septermber & October. Don't know if the thrice weekly cut is only for these two months or further because it is showing back to selling inventories as daily again in November. But airlines usually haven't updated the winter schedule until end of Aug or Sep.
Slightly off topic but I like taking CX879 alot more than CX873. The thrill and excitement of staying mostly awake to bask in F on a daytime flight is impossible to be matched in a dark atmosphere of the overnight fight. Wish they'd reduce the 3x weekly frequency on 873 instead of 879.

CX only reduce the flight schedule of 879 due to low season.
And they will bring it back as regular schedule during high season.

It's impossible for them to reduce 873 frequency, it's a high demand flight. Since they arrive HKG early in the morning and easy for those who need to catch flight to other cities.

CX won't zero out the 879, since they will bring it back as daily schedule (7X a week) for December and January.

OP is specifically asking about September 2nd, not December and January.
