I am proud to report that I probably have accumulated the lowest amout of HON mile so far in 2009 EVER:
11.242 miles
since beginning of this year even though I am flying every week.
Flying in LH Y class shows how low class the service for HONs really is. No personal word, no special treatment. I probably get more recognition flying BA or AF.
And service is just as bad: The red and blu HON tag on the luggage seems to have no effect on when the luggage is coming out at all (at least in Europe and US). Seatblocking is a myth, well that's a well known fact even LH continues to state differently.
The truth behind pickup at the aircraft: well only if there are not to many RDS and no one to be driven to the plane, so if a car happens to be available.
But hey, what am I complaining about... LH said they have too many HONs, so why would anyone expect immaculat First Class service when they are keen to save money.
I can just warn anyone to go for this service. Come with low expections and be prepared to spend a lot of money for a mediocre service.
Or be desparate to show off.

I am glad I am SEN based close to a "provincial" airport:
Seat blocking works smooth as silk
11 A/F is always available for me on the 737
SEN lounge is pretty nice
I do not need any car to get to A81 or A71
I do not expect anything in respect of special service from my E class tickets
Whenever I fly F/C I enjoy perfect service.
and close to 200k HON miles: 5.000 from E-Class flights, 195.000 from A/F/O Class flights.
Poor HONs....

Well, my personal experience in this year is similar to that of the OP: HON service is great until you are actually on board. No personal greeting in either C or Y (intraeuropean). No assistance in case flight irragularities occur whil on board. No seat blocking. Arbritary rebooking of booked seat without information on international flights (no aircraft changes involved).

But this happens to non-HONs as well. If you really want to chat with a FA or the Purser/Maitre du Cabine there is almost always an opportunity. As pointed out by SOG I don't find it to be important if the purser just stops by because he/she thinks you are entitled to or he/she is obliged to. I do like to chat with FAs but only if I have the feeling that they are in the mood to do so.

I usually chat to the crew after arrival whilst waiting for the door to be opened. (which at some airport takes ages and makes you think if they were even expecting the plane to make it there ...??)

So you just got SEN status (i.e. stepped over 100K status miles this year and got less than 100K status miles last year) and the system already shows HON miles. I thought, this display is only switched on afer reaching 300K HON miles?
Maybe the system doesn't care about HON miles until reaching SEN status and only then activates the right differentiation in counting.

Initially I thought it was a glitch with LH IT since it only showed on lufthansa.com, but they never bothered fixing it. So maybe it was on purpose.
The real problem is that even if the system shows 300k HON Circle miles, you still have to fly another 300k to actually become one.

Per multiple reports of smart guy Hombre ("The Voice of the HONs") there is no value being a HON anymore:

I don`t think so, but flying more eco (innereuropean and innergerman) the last months
I noticed since about begin of the year when fliying eco
that I have been greeted more often than in C before (happened nearly never before)
that I sometimes was asked whether I want a magazine
that I was offered chocolate when leaving the plane
sometimes even was told that I may sit in business if I want (no official OP UP)
Altogether my experience this year and so far: Quite the opposite of the OP.

Semantics is a dangerous animal.
As from elementary logics A->B follows not B -> not A, the 'inconvenient' deduction here would be smart -> "bashes LH" induces "apologises LH"-> ..... oh well.

Now that LH has acquired virtually every airline currently for sale, maybe they can acquire the M and M forum on FT and put in new thresholds:
600,000 posts every two years = HON Status
Benefit - A LH staff member to turn on and off the HON's laptop and provide wrist massages
100,000 posts per year (status for two years) = SEN Status
Towlettes to wipe the keyboard and screen of the SEN's computer
35,000 posts per year = Frequent Traveler Status
E mail updates about improvements at FRA :D
No more FT Evangelists, etc.

Back on topic, I think that service is somewhat erratic in the air...a couple times not even at the fault of the cabin crew as the status was not reflected on the manifest. Still good flights though. I think every individual should be treated with decent respect and courtesy.

I just wanted to post a reminder to stay on topic and suddenly realised that it isn't easy to identify the topic of this thread (low HON miles---type of mine is shorter thread---, complaints about HON service or simply a chat about the english language and posting stlyes to name a few.).
Anyway most of the posts here don't add any value to the HON perks discussion which seems to be the core topic. Hence I'd like to ask you to either discuss HON issues or switch to the M&M lounge thread for some personal conversation (I'd join for the latter one :)).
I leave this thread open for now but will close it if the discussion stays off topic.
