The cheapest one-way fare on daytime trains is €19, including reservation, bookable at least three days in advance, and limited by quota. These can only be purchased in Hungary - at main stations or railway ticket-issuing travel agents (eg Wasteels at Budapest Keleti station).
Best if you can get someone there to do it for you - and, since you will be travelling in a busy period, as far in advance as possible.
