WestJet "Passenger Perks" - Nanaimo and Westjet

Has anyone heard if Westjet will be starting to service Nanaimo in the fall? This would be the best news for central Vancr Island in years.

The best news was when they started Comox a decade ago!!

Nanaimo is an 80 minute drive to Comox and 90 minutes to YYJ.

I doubt you'll ever see Nanaimo as a WJ destination, any more than you'll see Penticton as a WJ destination!

too bad! I sure hope you’re wrong! I hate using AC but a 1.5hr drive each way is not worth it

It is interesting to note how some Westjet investor/management money has been put into Ladysmith real estate recently. I wonder why? Perhaps a flight or two from Comox/Victoria to Edmonton/Calgary may soon be reassigned to Nanaimo when the lengthened runway can handle 737 aircraft? Why else put all that money into Nanaimo airport? It would only make sense as AC now has a monopoly in Nanaimo with their smaller aircraft. It would be GREAT for Nanaimo/Duncan area.

There are only a couple of flights a day between Comox and each of YYC/YEG so I don't see WS transferring what few flights there are from Comox to Nanaimo!
