Have a chance to stay at any of several Novotel properties in Sydney, any preference? Just going for a quick 1.5 days (MR). Never been to Sydney. Was thinking the Darling Harbour location. But what about Darling Harbour Rockford, Menzies, or Olympic Park?

Personally I would take the Menzies although Darling Harbour will have better views the Menzies has IMO a better location. Forget Olympic Park it's miles away from the CBD and there is nothing worthwhile nearby.

The Menzies is a dog with fleas, and the Rockford not much better.
The Darling Harbour property is light years ahead of them.

Are you booking on the current Accor sale that runs through the end of September? If so, have you looked at any of the Mercures? I've been very happy with the Mercure on George Street with easy access to all sorts of transit, and a nice cafe across the street for breakfast with free wifi.

Yes, I started with the Accor sale but ended up using the Novotel site which didn't show the other hotels in the family. The Mercure is also available at the same rate as the aforementioned Novotel properties. I'm also considering a rate 1/2 as much via lastminute.com, 4*s in Potts Point. Might this be the Holiday Inn? Traveling alone this might be the best choice for a decent hotel room at a good value.

My Parents stayed at the Menzies a couple of years ago and were NOT impressed. Other than an excellent location, they couldn't find much positive to say about it.
Darling Harbour is the hotel to go for.Much prefer than the other two.Our hotel of choice when over in Sydney.Good 4 star value.
Good location, quiet and safe area. Plenty of bars, restaurants within the Darling Harbour area.
Out of the Novotels you list, +1 for the Novotel Darling Harbour.

For the record I opted for lastminute.com.au and found the Holiday Inn at Potts Point for half the price I was looking at at the Accor family hotels. Paid $105 AUD for 2 nights. Thanks for the help.

Good price - epic win.
If the thread had have started with "Would you prefer ACCOR or IHG" I would have certainly sadi IHG in general - ACCOR is way too "mass produced" for my liking.
Good for you to get Holiday Inn Potts Point at the price, nice hotel and great position.

Depends on the Accor level - the Darling Harbour Novotel is 4.5* and very nice, the Sofitel Wentworth also worthy of its 5* rating, and IMO better than the Intercontinental.
Sofitel Melbourne is one of the finest hotels on the planet, consistently excellent in both presentation and service. Loses points for:
a) No pool
b) Being tied to A-Club, the worst hotel loyalty scheme in the history of creation - including all preceeding, present and future multiverses.
I completely appreciate you POV but you can't seriously compare Sofitel Wentowrth to Intercon Sydney?

Yup - although I'd put The Observatory in completly different class above them.

Definitely go for Darling Harbour. Olympic Park isn't even in the CBD (and has nothing but the stadium nearby as an attraction, which is useless unless theres an event on you're attending).
I haven't been to this Novotel for quite some time but the view is great and back then the experience was wonderful too.
